2020 Weymouth Yacht Regatta

12th and 13th September 2020 – Weymouth Yacht Regatta, organised by the combined Yacht Clubs of Weymouth (YCW) is open to yachts with either an IRC or VPRS rating along with One Design Classes.

We’re planning to go ahead with the event as planned but will be ever mindful of the government’s current Covid-19 guidance:

  • Prize-giving is likely to be held online or on your own boat for your safety.
  • There will be no organised social events.
  • Boat crews may be restricted in number or to household and support bubbles.
  • There will be no skipper’s packs, sorry!

Please read the guidance below. We’ll keep you informed as our planning progresses over the coming weeks and do our best to ensure Weymouth Regatta 2020 goes ahead both safely and fairly. We’ve all been locked up for months, so if we can run the event in some form, we will!

There will be an ‘Early bird’ discount for entries received by midnight on 15th July 2020.

Covid-19 Guidance

The responsibility for the safety of crew and following government guidance rests with each vessel’s skipper. This includes keeping crew safe from exposure to Covid-19 as well as their safety at sea.

Maximum Crew Limit

A limitation on the number of persons onboard to assist compliance with UK government COVID-19 guidance is strongly recommended. This recommendation is relaxed if mitigation measures such as the wearing of face masks whilst onboard are observed.

Berthing

Berthing is restricted this year in Weymouth Harbour as rafting of vessels is currently not permitted due to C19. Berths must be booked in advance but not until 2 weeks before the regatta event. Alternatives include…

Boatfolk’s Weymouth marina above the town bridge which opens every 2hrs from 8am onwards during the summer. The 10am bridge will easily get you onto the race course in time for the first signal.

Boatfolk’s Portland marina is around 30 minutes under engine to the start line. Slip your lines at 0930h latest!

About Weymouth Yacht Regatta

All racing for the Regatta happens in Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour – chosen for the London 2012 Olympics due its steady breeze, easy race course access within 10 minutes of leaving your mooring and the ability to set a variety of courses.

ycw-yacht-racing
Weymouth Regatta is organised by the Yacht Clubs of Weymouth (YCW), coordinating the volunteers and facilities from the town’s four sailing clubs: Weymouth Sailing Club, Castle Cove Sailing Club, Royal Dorset Yacht Club and RNSA Portland.

If you’d like us to incorporate your class or championship into Weymouth Regatta, please just get in touch – we’ve previously had Impalas, Sigmas and J24s as part of the event.

Please contact sailing@wsc.org.uk with any enquiries.
